Author Richard Milner: Charles R. Knight, The Artist Who Saw Through Time

2012 this event has passed

On Sunday afternoon, March 25th, the Conservancy hosted an afternoon devoted to the legacy of one of Bronxville’s artist/residents, Charles R. Knight. The event at the Bronxville Library featured artwork by Knight, a fascinating presentation by Richard Milner, author of a newly published biography of the artist, and some personal recollections of her grandfather given by Rhoda Knight Kalt.

Knight, whose groundbreaking work left its mark on depictions of wildlife and dinosaurs, lived in Bronxville from 1906 to 1918. Locally he is known for the murals he painted at New York’s American Museum of Natural History and the outdoor sculptures at the Bronx Zoo’s Elephant House. The front door of his home at 67 Park is still flanked by two lions’ heads that guard the entrance.
